What does Reddit think of King Kong (2005)?

I love it, I think it's an amazing adventure movie. I'm a fan of Peter Jacksons excessive and epic film making and you can really feel that this was a passion project for him (he even paid $35 million out of his own pocket when the budget exploded).

I think the first part of the movie, before they arrive at skull island, could be like 20-30 minutes shorter, then it would have the perfect lenght, everything after that is perfect blockbuster cinema to me. The action is exciting and I liked the character. But to my surprise I liked Kong the most. He has a beautiful design and you really get the feeling that this is a living breathing animal with emotions. Incredible motion capture work of Andy Serkis, too.

People often criticize the 'bad CGI' in that movie which I find absurd. There are 1 or 2 scenes that are a bit jarring because the compositing wasn't really finished (dinosaur stampede) but other than that the CGI is terrific and still looks good today. I personally don't even care about said scenes with the iffy effects but to each their own.
