What don't people realise is a complete waste of money?

Paying for cable television you don't watch

THIS EXACTLY!!

What I don't understand is how people complain about "I work so much, I just want more time for what I want to do!" But they'll spend time watching things, programming the DVR, catching up on one or two shows but pay through the nose for 100 other channels they never view. That was me too! Until: I was paying bills one month (LPT: if you do this with a checkbook, instead of autopay, it makes you really look at the numbers) I looked at the cable bill and thought; why? Why am I paying ~ $130/month for this crap, most of which I don't watch or use?

Took action: canceled cable, down graded internet to cheapest speed I could get and purchased my own modem ($10/month modem rental fee is stupid!!) and never looked back!

NOW, I pay ~$35/month for basic internet. So that's an extra $100 in my pocket per month over 4 years. I have saved ~$4,800 in over the last 4 years! (or you can make an argument that I've wasted it in other areas lol)

If I want to watch anything, I stream it because, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon has all I care to see at a fraction of the cost. I realize I now have a lot more free time (and$$!!) in the evenings to work on my home, practice music, read, drink while playing video games and feel basically liberated from "shows" that were costing me more than they are actually worth.
