What 'family secret' did you learn that totally shocked you?

When my dad was a kid. They used to stay round their grandads. He had 4 brothers. While the younger ones would play out (dad included) the oldest of my uncles would just hang with the grandad. As grandad 'favoured' the oldest one. One day my dad hears a scream and the grandad in lay by fireplace dead knocked out with his brother lay beside crying. He said that he fell.

Turns out the grandad was a nasty piece of work and was abusing him. The kids mother knew and eventually gave her kids to a children's home because she couldn't cope with 4 boys and 2 girls. Later in life she reconnected but they're all messed up. My dad is a quiet bloke he seems the sanest.

The oldest uncle we don't know where he is. He stayed around for ages. I knew him about until I was about 15 (28 now). He moved and did stay in contact for a bit but when my dad gave his number to his brother (one that's head is gone by drug abuse) he flipped and changed his number and not been heard from since.

There was a rumour he was gay as he went everywhere with this guy and even moved with him. I'm gay myself and love to reconnect with him to tell him it's ok being gay and we all know and everything. We know where he moved too but it's wondering if he's still there.
