I'm a native West Virginian. I've not had any miners in my family for many generations, but I am an exception. They are revered here as though they put their lives at risk to keep the lights on for the whole country. It's pretty silly and I've never shared in the coal worship mentality, but sadly the public still generally eats it up. It was because of coal that the state of West Virginia has been raped by outsiders for every natural resource since 1863. Now the ugly-ass wind farms are ruining our views for us and the tourists who support the state with millions of dollars per year. From what I understand, the wind power generated here goes to places like DC and NYC – little to no benefit for West Virginians. So should we just shut WV down, or what?
