What made you break up with the person you thought you’d marry?

My uncle committed suicide. My dad was the one to find the body after my grandparents asked him to go check on him because nobody had been able to get ahold of him for a few days. My dad was (understandably) super messed up for quite a while after that and for the first couple of weeks he kind of just...stopped living life or doing daily activities like laundry and cooking, so I would make him meals and take them over there to him, eat with him, do his laundry. Basically just be there as a support system while he dealt with losing his little brother and finding him like that.

After a couple weeks of me doing this, and working full time, my ex (who lived in another state at the time) blew up on me for not being constantly available to him like I normally was, and told me "YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HARD THIS IS FOR ME!". I broke up with him then and there and I still struggle with wondering whether that was the right decision, but at the time I was just astounded that he totally disregarded what my family and I were going through and made it totally about him.
