Probably when I was closeted in high school. I wasn't allowed to hang out with friends outside of school, so I had no social life. It was a very country school and despite being closeted, I didn't pass with a lot of my peers, so I got bullied in a lot of my classes and felt humiliated a lot of the time. My family was uber-religious, so I couldn't talk to them about what I was going through. I mean the kind of religious that when they noticed I was acting depressed, my missionary uncle tried to pray demons of "infirmity" out of me. Media wasn't much of an escape because gay characters either didn't exist or were portrayed as clowns or villains. It was a definite valley in my life.
