What is the nicest thing you've ever done for a stranger, or had a stranger do for you?

When I was a freshman I flew to Chicago for a summer program. After my flight I called an Uber to get from the O'Hare airport to the UChicago dorms. My driver was extremely polite and funny. He gave me a rundown of what to do in Chicago for a week, and also mentioned his son who was also a first year college student.

Midway, I realized I arrived a day before the dorms were open, so I had nowhere to stay. I immediately asked my driver if he could turn around toward the city so I could find a hotel for the night. He mentioned that hotels would be a fortune just for a night's stay, and I insisted that I had no other option since there were no alternatives in the area.

Casually, he said, "You can just stay at my place for the night. It's pretty close to UChicago, and I can drop you early in the morning." Shocked, I said ok. After I agreed, my head was spinning and I thought about all the ways this could go wrong. Sorry, mom; I threw all your kidnapping-prevention advice out the window. I couldn't stop thanking him on the way to his house, and he replied, "You remind me of my son. Don't worry about. I got you man!"

He stopped at the grocery store so I could get some food for the day. When we arrived at his studio apartment, he showed me around and said that he'll be at his girlfriend's house for the night. I could not believe this dude let a random 18 year old stay in his flat without any supervision. He gave me his Netflix password and his tablet to use to keep myself entertained. The next morning he picked me up at 7:30am, we got Starbucks, and drove to the dorms on time for the first day of the program.

A few weeks later he even texted me to see how I was doing! I'll remember him forever.
