What is the point of this life if there is an afterlife.

There's an old saying, I think it's a Hindu saying... "We're not human beings having a spiritual experience, we're spiritual beings having a human experience."

The point is that our "higher self," if you will, has chosen to be here, in a state of separation from God, and is gaining something from the experience, or fulfilling some higher purpose unknown to us.

It's mystical stuff, we don't get the technical specifications downloaded into the brain. To the best of our ability we are to try to reunify with the source of all things. The process may continue after we drop the body, so suicide might not get you there, and might deprive you of an opportunity, not to mention the suffering it might cause others.

Christianity teaches that at some point in the future, the living and the dead will be resurrected into a new creation. Make of that what you will. Perhaps through our actions we are building the foundation. "What we do in this life echoes through eternity."
