What is a realistic solution to preventing mass shootings?

Sure. They can do so at a club. There is no need to practice on your personal shooting range.

Not being a hunter by trade for example? That's the whole point of it: That you can only get such a license after being checked. Not like it currently is, where you can basically go in a store, pick a weapon and leave.

I mean look at any given first world country of the world: For some reason it largely works there.

The problem the USA have are circulation. And the thought behind controlling ammunition instead of weapons is to dry the black market out. Make their stuff more expensive due to them also having to get around checks and, important in case of ammunition, add a risk factor that the ammo could blow up in your face, as you don't know who put it together in their cellar.

The thought simply is that just forbidding weapons won't work, as there are too many around already. But ammo will be used up. The alternative is keeping everything as it is... which allows for situations like Las Vegas, school shootings and other crimes.
