My family and I are standing in an elevator of a hotel in America (we’re from Canada), and a large Caucasian man and his daughter step in. The man turns away from is and says “Oh god they’re from China” to his daughter. I was 13 and completely shocked.

First of fucking all, I have never been to fucking China, I’ve lived in Canada my entire life you ignorant fuck. The fact that you didn’t even try to lower your voice means that you assumed that we didn’t speak English. Well guess what?? I don’t speak Cantonese or Mandarin and I’ve had multiple identity crisis’s and anxiety attacks because of that!

It wasn’t even that he assumed wrong of us that bothered me, it was just the sheer blunt racism. I wish I had said something.
