What’s an appropriate weekly allowance for a 12 year old boy in the US?

I'm super late with this, but I gotta say this is spectacular. Where I work, I often work the register. I see parents coming in with their kids, and letting them buy whatever they want with the money those kids earned. I'm always impressed by tuese parents, because I see, and hear them on the sales floor saying the following:

"You have 20 dollars, and what you want to buy is 21, so we need to get rid of something". To that effect. Kids are little geniuses, and when properly raised, trained, and challenged on how to handle real world situations they are able to adapt.

Plus I love it when I go to give a 7 year old their change, and they fist bump me. Its so cute.
