I used to get a pain in my head, it was a shocking pain and then an indescribably intense searing hot feeling for about 30 seconds 4-5 times a day. I was stabbed in the thigh once and this was exponentially worse.

People kept telling me it was normal and not to worry about it. "Everyone has pain, yours is no different." So I didn't do anything and didn't get pain meds, didn't even take aspirin, thinking that everyone had this same pain all of the time. Decades later I got a wisdom tooth removed (literally last year) and the doctor told me the tooth on that side had grown in over the nerve and would press the nerve between the tooth and bone. As he said, "this is an inhumane amount of pain."
