What’s misconstrued about digital immortality

Immortality,

  • Memories, language.
  • Art, monuments, writing.
  • Photos, audio, video.
  • Digital footprint, dna.
  • Recording of two-way behavior (e.g. virtual assistant or clone), connectome, ?.
  • Cyborg/cybernetic footprint.
  • Born or migrated to digital multiverse where your state is constantly tracked and backed up.
  • Possibly some future physics/tech magic like splitting yourself using properties of quantum entanglement.

Even in the digital universe, you would need lossless copying. Running your software on upgraded hardware may or may not be continuous.

As a fun side thought, our society could be thought of as one living organism that has lived for thousands of years. In a way, we represent an immortal process. It's just that we have grown so much that we are now indistinguishable from our younger selves.

If we become digital creatures and allow time to change us, even our digital selves may become unrecognizable in a few millennia.
