My mom had an unknown stalker who would call the house several times a day when I was in high school. This went on for about six months. The man would call in the middle of the night very regularly and would harass anyone who answered the phone, usually my dad. He would say terrible things about what he wanted to do to my mother, violent and sexual acts. He would list details of things he saw her doing during the day, like purchases she made at the grocery store, to prove he was watching/following her. For a long time, my dad would not tell my sister and I what kinds of things he would say to him during these phone calls. One afternoon when I got home from school, he called and I answered the phone. He knew all about my family and would sort of pant like a dog on the phone. He told me he was going to rape and murder my mom in her bed, except he used far more upsetting descriptive words. We had a caller ID installed, as well as a security system in our home. We told the police a few times about it but these were the only solutions they suggested to us. He would always call from different pay phones, so we could not trace his location or even find out if it was someone we knew. One night, he successfully broke into our house and came into my bedroom (my little sister would sometimes crawl in bed with me and she woke up to see him standing over our us). She screamed and I woke up to the security alarm going off and my dad chasing him down our hallway and out the front door. With the help of my dad and sister's statement, they were able to catch the guy, who was a local sex offender. He had done home reconstruction for the woman who lived next door to us and had watched our family for months .
