I mean, I’ve only seen it once and there’s always that thrill of the new, but hot damn, it is everything I love about the Wachowskis. It’s incredibly confident about taking huge, risky swings, which I’d rather see than something pat and narratively boring any day. And unlike the rest of Hollywood right now, it seems utterly unafraid to commit to themes that are really, really sincere, but probably really uncool to adolescent boys. (I started weeping at, “You changed what ‘our side’ means.”)

The movie absolutely rules, but you can’t deny that the scene with Christina Ricci transparently tells the audience, “I didn’t want to be here today.”
