What is your first/fondest memory of the Diablo series?

Diablo 1. First encounter with the Butcher.

Ran around until he slaughtered me.

"Urgggh. Fresh meat".

Diablo 1 also. Similar story.

At the time, my friend was the only one of my friends who had a computer (lol i feel old) we were 13 or 14 at the time, and he got Diablo, and i'd go to his house and we each had our own character and we'd sort of trade off playing.

Needless to say he was a few levels ahead of me cause he could play it whenever, but i remember i'd only put maybe an hour or so into it but he was stuck on the butcher. Anyway, I think i was the level before the butcher and i'd found an axe that was easily 3x better than my friend's weapon.

Like i said his toon was stuck on the butcher and with this new weapon i found, we managed to kill him on my character. Now, for anyone who wasn't around when computers/internet was becoming a thing, it was fucking awesome having a friend with one. As many of you know, PC games just play different, and this was new shit at the time.

Anyway, after i got that axe drop my buddy let me play like, all fucking night and the next day and we just chilled and traded off playing my character to see how far we could get with that awesome axe.

I mean, we found a replacement after a few hours im sure, but the whole random drop thing, and procedrually generated dungeons was brand fucking new. Everything before that was final fantasy where you had a guide and knew what was around every corner. Diablo blew my fucking mind just with it's replayability. I think we got to the caves or something that play session but it was fucking awesome.

I still love the Diablo series, but the randomness of everything and the pace of the game at the time (D1) kept me at the edge of my seat as to what might be around the next corner. I really like diablo 3, but im not so much at the edge of my seat because of the environment.

But yeah, that's my best memory of the Diablo series. I've played a ton of games since then, but Original Diablo and that whole experience is probably the top of my list as probably what made me the fucking nerd i am today.

...That and the fact my dad had fat genes.
