first of all, there were hundreds of people i know all around me and, not for nothing, i was also on a very potent combination of ecstasy and mescaline this evening, but for all the drugs and socializing going on in that warehouse, perhaps only my ex-wife was ever looking directly at me for longer than a moment while i was working; and i am sure she was not looking at the moment i will describe...

it was about 12:45am and my set was almost done. i was sweaty, my feet were a sore from standing, my mouth was dry from not drinking enough and that was due to the fact i had to pee really bad for at least 30 minutes, but would be unable to leave the decks until at least 1am - the end of my set.

so here it is, the mix was rocking, but realizinf the short time left, i knew if i ended the current mix early, i would have time for 2 more records plus 1 for the next dj to play into so i was in a hurry to find the record i wanted. when it was found, i turned around and, while holding the record tight under my arm, began fading out the mix. swapped the records and dropped the replaced vinyl on the table, temporarily, so i could quickly place the needle on the new record and then i immediately realized something that rarely happens with vinyl mixing, the 2 tracks were already in perfect unison... like a mother fucking boss, i waited patiently to verify what my gut was already ecstatic about and, 8 seconds later, i slammed the volume fader up for the next one beat and the dancefloor just turned on with hands raised and even a few hoots from the crowd.

by 1:05am i was in the bathroom, pissing like a race horse before anyone could congratulate or acknowledge me for the good set. in fact, it was one of the few times when i cut in front of the line at one of my own parties using the excuse dj prerogative.
