When I got engaged to my now husband my whole family and friends were happy for me for finding happiness and love obviously, but also because he was active duty military which meant I would have the healthcare I need. I have had a kidney disease and heart condition (and several other things going on with my health) since I was 11 so because of pre existing conditions, the next year I would be kicked off my parents insurance and on my own, and kind of screwed because of the amount of doctors I have. I understood why they all said it, but I got a lot of “I’m so happy for you!” And “you’re so lucky! That worked out perfectly” so I went to my best friends house and her dad and I were very close, we both had the same kidney issues so that bonded us when I was in middle school, so I expected the same response from him ESPECIALLY because he has the same health issues. But he didn’t. Out of everyone he looked at me and said “good for him, I hope he realizes how lucky he is to catch a rare one like you.” I’ll never forget that.
