In ‘95 my 12 year old brother (I was five) was attacked by a group of 16-17 year old gang members. They beat him bloody with two baseball bats. We don’t officially know why, the police said it was race related. Caved his skull in, fractured his face, broke some ribs. Doctors prepared our family for his death. He looked like a purple corpse, it was horrifying. Luckily he survived, albeit different, due to the massive brain damage. He has a metal plate in his head and it took months of rehab and recovery, along with multiple surgeries. That was a rough year for the family as my grandfather died shortly thereafter and my parents divorced at the end of the year. Fuck that year sucked.
