Ended up watching a movie about kidnapping and rape on a first date , that didn't end spectacularly.

I was chatting to this girl on tinder and we were getting on alright so I thought fuck it let's actually go on a date. I suggested going to the cinema and then going to get drinks afterwards and said she can pick any movie and we'll just go watch it, I'm not fussy. She suggests 'Room' and I'm like sure, whatever, having no goddam clue what it was or was about.

I'm not very emotional myself, and I'm absolutely rubbish at consoling emotional people.

So we go into the theatre and we're just chatting about whatever and we're getting on pretty well, we take our seats and start watching the movie and it's immediately clear I made a massive fucking mistake letting her choose the movie. I don't know how many of you are familiar with it but there's a woman and son who are kidnapped and the former is being raped, when they are finally rescued it doesn't get a whole lot happier either. Now, don't get me wrong, I can enjoy a drama or a movie of this ilk but it's just not what I'd pick on a first date, it's not exactly light and breezy.

She starts crying, pretty quickly too and not too subtly. I try to counter this by doing the whole, 'pretend i'm too engrossed in this story to notice maybe it'll blow over' so she's there having a cry while I'm staring intently at this rape scene doing my damnedest not to acknowledge the sobbing going on two my immediate right. This goes on for the duration of the movie, which if I remember correctly was roughly half my life time and we leave, agree to do drinks a different night, never to speak again.
