What's your 'fuck this, I quit!' story?

Was working for a marketing department for a timeshare company. My job was to set up booths at local events (sporting events, concerts, etc), so our reps could push timeshares and shit. Got in to all the cool shit for free, got to take my wife and kids to a bunch of NHL and MLB games, even free tickets to the local theme park, which was a cool perk.

One day, my coworker quit. He was older and the physical labor we often had to endure wasn't being so kind on his body, so he found something less demanding. So I was going all over the greater metro area by myself. I got a shitload of overtime. Which was nice. But, it was frustrating to be all alone. I did the best I could and tried not to be frustrated by the lack of help. The marketing director kept putting off hiring another dude.

So this goes on for about 8 months, I'm alone, doing what I can by myself. There's a home and garden show coming up and the marketing director wants me to load up our stainless steel grill and take it to the show. I say I'll need help loading it into my work truck. He says he'll have someone there to help. Now this grill is big, it's heavy, it's a two man job to lift the bitch. Day comes to set up the home and garden show. Load up the truck. Just need to load the grill and strap it down. Call boss. Says he can't make it and can't spare anyone, just load it myself. Ugh fine.

So I figure I'll put it on its side, lean it against the tailgate and sort of lean/lift it up into the bed of the truck. Well, this sort of works. Until I lost my grip and it falls onto the concrete of our storage/warehouse. This breaks the grill. Shit. At least it didn't land on me.

So I go to set up the home and garden show, without the grill. On the way I call my boss to tell him what happened. He doesn't seem upset but, I could tell he was frustrated. Whatever he says, just get the event set up then head over to MLB stadium to restock our booths for that nights game. Ok I say. I do all that and clock out for the day, was a fairly light day. Sucked about the grill.

Next day I'm in my car heading to pick up my work truck. Boss calls me, says to come straight to the office. This happens all the time, he probably wanted a quick meeting to discuss the weekends set up plans. Nope. I get there and he's with another manager in his office. Both look upset. I sit down and say whats up? They tell me they have to write me up. That grill wasn't cheap for the company, that it's more than for display, it was going to be a prize given to a timeshare member. Well fuck, I told you I needed help with it. I know he says but, we were in meetings all day. Bullshit excuse I think. He shoves a piece of paper at me, wanting me to sign it. It's just a write up, it's not a termination but, fuck no, I'm not signing that shit. I tell him I'm not going to sign, the grill would be fine if I had help, a coworker. He says I have to sign it. I pull out my phone. Hes like wtf are you doing. Looking for the number to OSHA, you can call them to explain the situation cause I'm not signing shit because I should have never been in that situation, shit could have fallen on me or something. So the marketing director takes the write up and says you knkw what, just go get the truck and go to your first set up. Fine I say.

I go to the storage unit we rent from a contractor buddy of the director, it's in an industrial part of town about 3 miles from the office. So I'm in my car, pissed off. I'm thinking those mother fuckers. I ain't going to kill myself for fucking timeshares man. So instead of getting the truck, I leave all my work shit in the cab and take out some personal items. And I fucking go home. Hours later, I'm enjoying a cold beer at home and my phone starts blowing up. Boss. Managers. Just about everyone from our branch was calling me. Fuck those fuckers, I'm done. I silence my phone and grab another beer. Few more hours later my mom calls. Wtf are you doing today your boss call called me says you've gone missing! First, how the fuck did he get your number, you're not my emergency contact, my wife is (oh yea, her phone was getting blown up, too!). Mom says she was told he found her info on facebook. Wtf. Ugh. So I tell her what happened and she's like, yea fuck them but, you should call them to say fuck them. I say I'd consider it.

So I'm thinking about it and I decide to go over their head. I call corporate. But not corporate directly. I call the director of IT, he's cool. He had me help network the call center and set up an office in another market in my state because I have some IT experience. Anyway. I call him, ask for HR's number. Hes like wtf why, so I tell him. He's like shit dude. He gives me the direct line to someone high up. Call her, explain what happened, even them stalking my mom on FB. She's like um, this sucks ok thanks for the info.

Calls to my phone stopped after that. Heard from someone a few months later that the marketing department got their asses handed to them for not hiring another dude to help me. Looked like they were instructed to do so and they ignored it because paying another dude to help meant less money to their bonuses or something. Fuck those guys.

Anyways, that's how I quit that job.
