When do they close beaches/islands during storms?

I'd have to see the specific circumstances I was in.

In some cases, I've moved heaven and earth to move up flights to get out of the way of some weather event that was coming (blizzards, storms). Most of those were ones were I was on a business trip, and not a pleasure trip.

For a pleasure trip, I suppose I'd take my cues from the hotel where I would be staying at. While I'm fairly versed in hurricanes and have had some experiences with snow storms, I'd assume the hotel people where I'm at know more about what to expect than I would.

In this case where there's a tropical storm / Cat 1 hurricane expected to skirt the shore to the north of Corpus Christi, I'd probably be less inclined to evacuate compared to if I was closer to Galveston, based on what I see from the NHC's bulletin, and especially the rainfall expected. CC is expected to get 4-6 inches of rain, meanwhile Galveston is expected to get 15-20 inches.

At the same time, storms change direction and intensity at the drop of a hat, so I'd also be ready to leave at a moment's notice.
