I'm going to preface my comment by stating that I truly don't know of any 100% demure woman from any culture of in any era. It seems like the more you learn about a person, the more complex they become. But most people already understand that fact. Some women pretend to be demure because they understand social dynamics and expectations of their culture and know that they need to act in such a way to save face and/or get something in exchange. I also think trp exaggerates the term and doesn't actually understand what the word demure means. Some men and women act very self-deprecating because of other issues but this is not being demure.

Women from developing countries have learned to behave in a way that can be misunderstood as demure by men from other cultures as part of a resource exchange. In other words, they appear to be extra nice to get what they want. This facade is mostly the fault of the man who doesn't actually know the woman be is with and he typically ends up getting burned while everyone else saw it coming a mile away. Every now and then you run into a mentally ill woman who truly wants to take advantage of and hurt the western man but that is not common. It's almost always a miscommunication and willful blindness on the part of the man who typically has forced a stereotype into his lady and sees that it doesn't apply.

This happens all the time regarding EE women, Asian women and other women from developing countries. It will continue to happen until these countries reach an economic level more in line with the west. This is why you see the list of "demure" women around the world beginning to shrink. As countries develop, their women are no longer forced to be extra nice to a foreign partner out of fear.

Trp salivates at the idea of a scared, intimidated woman who has little/no power over her life and can't fight back when she is treated badly. It is one of the only ways to keep someone with you while treating them badly. In a way, it's a more extreme kind of financial abuse, as well.

With time, it will go away. These men will continue to run out of choices. Or the west will fall and then western women will be the ones leaving.

Combine this with the fact that EE women present themselves in a very traditionally feminine way and posses many physical traits that are seen as attractive in women in the west and you have the gist of it.
