While I may not make it through this, my family will not be stuck with the burden of debt. Thanks Obama.

okay let's bring it back. part of my problem with Christianity is that the bible is an imperfect text insofar as it's riddled with ambiguity. examples of ambiguity (and imperfection in general) are clearly visible both in the text and in our interpretation of the bible. here's of few examples:

First, the different sects (e.g. Lutheranism) that have risen since the genesis of Christianity (no pun intended).

Second, the existence of contradicting ethical claims, as well as decree that would be widely viewed as abhorrent by today's standards (Exodus 21:20-21 anyone?).

Third, discrepancies among variations of the Bible (e.g. New International Version).

If the bible is the word of God, and if God is perfect, it doesn't follow (for me, at least) that the bible would be such a dated, imperfect text.

Back to the original point when you said "This is the good Christian thing to do", why do you think there is so much disagreement among Christians to perform acts of good such as helping the less fortunate, and finally do you think that this end (i.e. performing acts of good) could be achieved in a more effective way than through religion?
