"winning an argument against a genius is hard, bur winning a argument against a idiot is impossible". how did you learn this the hard way?

When I was in high school in the 1990’s I worked for Toys R Us the the loading dock.

One of the job tasks was when people bought large items that were stored in the back of the store , they would come to a customer pick up door and we would have their items waiting for them and load them into their cars.

Swing sets came in 3-4 , sometimes more large boxes. Usually the boxes were around 6 -8 feet long , 2 x2 deep / wide and weighed close to a hundred pounds each. If they had playhouses there also was a huge box like 5x5x3. You needed a pick up truck or minivan with the seats folded or taken out to be able to fit them. No other car would work. Even if you took the stuff out of the boxes you still had 6-8 foot long poles. And due to the size and weight of the items , it took 2-3 people to move and load them for someone.

So I happened to be working in the back and the manager calls me asking me to show someone the size of the swing set boxes. So he comes back , I show him and ask what kid of car he had - he said a sedan. I explain you need a truck or a van , only thing it will fit in . I explained we can hold the item after the buys or , or there is a company we can refer him to for delivery. He says he thinks it will fit. I tell him again it won’t fit.

So we walked away , a few minutes later our merchandise pager goes of showing the swing set was sold . I was expecting to get a call saying it was a hold for a pickup.

Few minutes later guy shows up at the door for the swing set - I look out, he’s driving the sedan.

So I explain again that it won’t fit. He says we’re gonna try. I explain again that there is possible way the items will fit - I said the likes are almost as long as your car, and explain that we are not gonna to pull 3 people from their jobs to try and do something I know 100% won’t work.

He gets irate and demands a manger. So I call the manger - he comes back and asks what issue is. Guy says that your worker won’t try and load my car - manager looks at him and says it won’t fit, you need a truck or a minivan with the seats out or down. Dude gets all pissed says he’s going to just return the item since we won’t help him. Manager finally says - we’ll sir , i don’t know what else to tell you. You can return it at the service desk.
