prince was against exposure. he was banking on the fame he accrued throughout the 70's and 80's to keep him going. if he pulled that anti-exposure copyright enforcement shit back when he was the new kid on the block, we would be saying "who the fuck is prince" and he knew it too; why else would he call himself "the artist formerly known as prince" unless he needed that name recognition to survive because his anti-exposure bullshit would have crippled his future

i'll eat my words if there becomes a "the artist formerly known as Childish Gambino" but i don't think there will be because they know that exposure is a godsend in a world with 7 billion different people wanting attention brought to their craft.

if anything, he created a self fulfilling prophecy by acting like an over-controlling asshole in regards to his copyright. people that would have paid for his music instead pirate it now after seeing how he treats his fans.
