women are more likely than men to be hired for faculty positions in science, mathematics and technology...Women and black and Latino researchers instead have an advantage, the study found. It also found an apparent disadvantage for Asian researchers starting their careers.

Oh god. I know I gave you my word but I could not help myself. The last thing I expected from you was a relatively on-topic and constructive comment. Imagine if you had opened with this.

I think affirmative action is necessary, but only to promote equal OPPORTUNITY. This type of affirmative action, where employers are required to fill a quota of xyz amount of minorities and women is plainly promoting equal OUTCOME.

And no, I'm not trying to say that people IMAGINE society's injustices, but rather that people very often use these injustices to absolve themselves of responsibility, resulting in entitlement. This TYPE of affirmative action only adds to the injustice.

I argue that we do not need these silly quotas. I mean, look at what they're after.. people with dark skin and or vaginas. How ridiculous. As if all women and minorities were dealt such a bad hand that we should turn a blind eye to merit and accept these people for these qualities alone? That, ironically, is racist and sexist. I myself am among these supposed 'disenfranchised' people.

And yes, I do believe that if a person puts their entire mind to something, they can do it. And if they cannot? Then they do not deserve it! It's not society's problem.. We should act to give people equal OPPORTUNITY, and NO more.

I really don't know where you got this idea that I'm blaming other people for my shortcomings. I'm not afraid to claim responsibility for my life. It's true that free-will is not absolute. I've made stupid decisions out of lust and anger, sure. People have screwed me over, sure. It's also true that the physical correlate for free-will does not fully develop until late adolescence, SURE. But at the end of the day, you have to do what is in your power, and if it's not in your power to succeed, then you do not deserve the same outcome as the man who struggled to do so.
