Women of reddit, how do you feel when a guy point out your wardrobe malfunction?

This happened a few months back at my local library. I was sitting in the library when a group of 4 girls enter and sit at a table across from me. Maybe 10 minutes later one of the girls, with her back facing me had her panties riding all the way up. Guess her jeans just did not fit well. I was going to say something (was hoping her friend would see) but some other guy beat me to it. Don't really know where he was sitting but he walked up from her side and said "hey your underwear is showing". She thanked him, her friends laughed and he left. When the guy had walked a good distance away I clearly hear one of the friends say "fucking creep" and the other girls agreed, as they all laughed. They continued to say how much of a perv the guy was for pointing it out. I felt so bad for that guy.

My problem is, I have done this before and was also thanked, on more than one occasion. Maybe I was also called a creep when I left, thinking I had done the right thing. Should guys just ignore your wardrobe malfunctions?

TL;DR guy was called a creep for pointing out a girls panties showing. Should men just ignore this?
