Would a tattoo hurt me in the future?

Okay, so here is my unsolicited advice.

  1. If you intend to wear long sleeves every day of your professional career it won't be a problem.
  2. You are 18, as a tattooed (almost) 30 year old my advice would be to wait a bit.
  • You can always get permanent body art at a later point, but it is a decision which will be a pain in the ass to undo.
  • You can afford better artists when you are older, if you want to get permanent art, it is worth it to wait a bit and pay to get it done right.
  • I got my tattoo at 25 and am thrilled with it, but had I gotten it at 18 (knowing what I wanted at 18) I likely would not feel the same way. My husband got his quarter sleeve at 18 and he recently had to get it re-worked. He likes his tattoo but if he had to do it again, he would have picked a different design. At 18 you still have a lot of maturing and growing to do, it doesn't hurt to wait on permanent decisions.
