Yes, the Government Should Regulate Anti-Abortion Zealots Who Pose as Doctors

I think I accidentally went to one of these types of places in Canada when I was pregnant.

I became unexpectedly pregnant when I was 23 and in an absurdly hard situation (homeless, alcoholic, in an abusive relationship, working as a sex worker) I saw an ad on the bus offering free options counselling and I thought it would be step 1. to getting access to an abortion.

Instead I was told that it was part of God’s plan, I was told I could easily “make it work” that the government would support me and my baby, and that an abortion at 8 weeks was killing a well developed fetus.

I’m lucky that I was able to see through the act and left halfway through the appointment; I almost bought into everything they were saying but it gave me nightmares and increased my anxiety ten fold. I was able to have an abortion thankfully but I’m still haunted by the “going to hell” part of it all.
