Having two parents who lived in former Soviet countries that censored and took their basic rights away - I come from a anti-communist household.

BUT when it comes to a 'communist films', there's not doubt that the old masters like Eisenstein, Dovzhenko, Pudovkin, Vertov were masters. And Soy Cuba is another beautiful film. Also, when it comes to big budget epics about the Russian Revolution in which there's a passionate love affair going on the midst of it, I actually prefer Warren Beatty's Reds or Lean's Doctor Zhivago.

But a movie that I really like that's totally Marxist-leaning is Bertolucci's Novecento (1900) - it's a beautiful, lush film - there are some parts that doesn't work and too much and of course too 'Red' for my taste - but I love the summer section in that film. I think it's a wonderful film with faults.
