2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Sedan Tested | Car and Driver

This is simply not remotely true. Rich people don’t buy cars to hold their value. They recognize that cars are a severely depreciating asset and don’t treat them like real estate or stocks.

Regarding a 3 Series vs a Huracan, how can you even think that’s true? Let’s say you bought a 2014 Huracan brand new when it first came out.

The average price for a 2015 Huracan on autotrader is about $215,000. The original MSRP was $237,000 with absolutely no options. The average selling price was closer to $280,000.

So over three years you’ve lost something like a minimum of $22,000 just in depreciation, but likely more like $65,000. That does count the services, which are astronomically more expensive than a 3 Series. The insurance which is more than double a 3 Series. The gas costs, any repair costs, the tires, etc.

For the amount of money it costs to own a Huracan just for three years, you could buy a 3 Series outright and pay for all its upkeep.
