Agreed, with this caveat. The goals mentioned here are internal goals - finishing homework on time, take assignment seriously, study more. These are things where the locus of control is internal.

The thing I mentioned is not properly classified as a "goal" in the same way as the things referenced in your study because it is a thing I have little control over. It's not really a goal that I can set out to achieve; it's more an expectation that I'm expecting someone else to meet.

As a leader myself I've learned that when I don't clearly communicate my expectations for others, it's really unsurprising when they don't meet those expectations, and really, in such cases, that is probably my fault as opposed to the other person's.
