AITA for going through my 17 year old daughters luggage to "confiscate" all the thong bikinis she bought and was going to wear on vacation?

Not to detract from anyone else's experiences, but I had extremely strict parents and still never went through a rebellious phase. For example, my siblings and I were forbidden from watching TV and movies, listening to any music besides classical, swearing, wearing makeup, having any piercings, following professional sports, drinking alcohol, dating, having sex, going to parties, etc.

But somehow it just kinda... jived with my personality. Even after I moved away from home at 18, I still didn't drink any alcohol or have sex (or even kiss anyone) until my late twenties. And I didn't go crazy with it at all -- I never got blackout drunk, and I've still only had one sex partner in my life (my now-husband).

It depends a lot on how much you resent the rules, and on your level of desire to engage in the forbidden activities in the first place. Every child is different.

(Note: this still doesn't make it healthy to be extremely strict as parents, but making blanket generalizations isn't true, either.)
