I am 25 years old, make $100k base (HHI 210k base), live in Chicago, and I just submitted my two weeks notice!

For me better opportunities would mean that my kids:

• don’t need to work 80 hours a week at the family business during the summer • don’t need to work 40 hours a week when school is in session, no time to study or do homework • can go to preschool • can maybe afford private school • can participate in extra-curricular activities • have a parent who’s available to pick up kid after school so don’t need to walk an hour to work if they do stay after school for something • can have tutoring or lessons if they’re interested in something • don’t feel like a burden to their parents

So that’s why my partner and I want to make more for our kids. It’s been rough. We made it IN SPITE of the LACK of opportunities, not because of them. I already acknowledged that our incomes are already “good,” I am simply venting online, as we could have been much better (for example, if my parents could read and write, maybe they would have told me about how lucrative CS is, or if my high school were in a better area and had AP classes)

Apologies for the tone — I’m going to leave this as a general and last reply to my post before logging out of this throwaway
