I am completely fine with homeless people spending money (mine or otherwise) on drugs or alcohol

Appreciate the honesty. I work as an EMT in a major us city and most of my calls I run in any given shift involve the homeless. I have nothing against them. In fact I made a point to follow a homeless citizen who I picked up on Instagram because he is an incredible artist/ all around nice guy and I hope to buy one of his works one of these days. But with that said. The vast majority of the reasons why I pick up homeless people involves alcohol and drug use (mostly meth) and the calls are never pretty as it involves them trying to fight us or other random bystanders on the street. Which then brings in the police and it’s just a shit load of work for everybody involved that could have been prevented with the individual not having easy access to the plastic bottle of e/j brandy or takka vodka that you helped them buy. And now because of that my ambulance is out of service picking up that high/intoxicated person. Now if a real emergency happened in that area it’s going to take something like 20 mins for the next available ambulance to arrive to that scene. Imagine your infant in cardiac arrest and your ambulance takes 20+ mins to get there because the nearest one available is tied up on an intoxicated person.
