[Ama Request] The Duffer Brothers, creators of Stranger Things.

Fans are entitled to an opinion, they're not entitled to controling how a story is told, that is on the creator

I agree in principle, but it gets complicated when you're talking about a medium like film or television where there is so much money at stake. In a perfect world anyone with a cool vision and a great story to tell would be able to do what they want to do, but when there are millions and millions of dollars at stake, in most cases there has to be some element of fan service involved.

For instance, after the relative failure of Batman v Superman at the box office, which many people took to be a result of its dark and serious tone (as if the Nolan Batman movies weren't also dark and serious), the people in charge of Suicide Squad demanded a bunch of reshoots and a new editing direction, trying to cater to the Marvel crowd, which is how we wound up with that quippy trailer with Bohemian Rhapsody as the music. The movie wound up being complete shit, a testament to attempted fan service gone wrong.
