As an asexual, I feel as though us aces and CF people receive quite similar backlash when we just exist

It's strange that so many take the huge leap from "not interested in being in a romantic relationship or be touched sexually" to "zero empathy or feelings for other people." Romance and sex are a separate kind of affection than familial or friendly affection. Doesn't everyone have plenty of people in their lives whom they love dearly, but their relationship with and affection for that person has absolutely nothing to do with romance or attraction? I have so many friends and family members I love dearly, and my love for them is nothing like my love for my husband. My love for them exists completely independent of my romantic relationship. If I didn't feel romantic attraction to anyone, I would still be completely capable of loving and caring for people as just... ya know... people. To love them for who they are and to be happy they're in my life. Has nothing to do with romance.
