Have any of you ever been afraid to sacrifice your present happiness to support the idea of future happiness?

My take. Happiness doesn’t come from things. It never did. Ask your childhood self what you could find enjoyment with before you were sold that things make you happy. Mass marketing is a bitch. It doesn’t have to be a direct ad either. For example, you are perfectly happy with your kitchen. You like to cook and have always made great dishes in your kitchen. Sure there are some things that could improve the experience but you’ve never felt like you have been without. Well you get an invite to a friends house. You walk into the kitchen and BAM. They have all wolf appliances with those cool red knobs and they are much bigger then your appliances. Your brain immediately starts to go to work of all the amazing things you could cook and how your guests would drool over your kitchen just like your doing to your friends. You could have Christmas at your house and cook the roast, the vegetable and the pies all at once! It would be awesome!! So 5 mins ago you were content and now you are envy and scheming how you are going to purchase a $15,000 range. Oh and in reality the bigger appliances are only helping you the few times a year you have a large group over. This example happens all the time with so many different things. So you really have too ask yourself if something is really worth it or is it your brain playing tricks on you? Is it going to improve your life most days or just a few days a year? Are you creating a fantasy? I’m not saying not to buy anything. I’m just saying give it some time and really examine how it will improve your life and for how long.
