Do any of you live without a smart phone or deeply connected to the internet and the people on it?

I'm in the process of ditching mine but have severely limited how much I use it, the next step is purchasing a portable music player so that I'm not relying on my phone for listening to music. It's difficult, very difficult. Your smart phone has become so ingrained into daily life that it requires a complete change in lifestyle in order to lead a life without it.

You'll take a hit friendship wise as most people use WhatsApp/Messenger or whatever app to communicate with people. Same with communicating with family. Banking becomes a lot more difficult as you need to use online banking or call your bank each time and suffer through the 10 minute "Have you considered giving us a scan of your face, a recording of your voice and 2 pints of blood in order to transfer money?" Card readers don't seem to be all the rage any more... Need to check your e-mail whilst cartwheeling across the Yorkshire moors? More difficult without a smartphone.

The most difficult part though is trying to shift yourself from the mindset that your phone is something to use when you're bored. Sat on a train? Time to browse and look at memes. Resting betweens sets at the gym? Time to switch between the same 3 websites that regurgitate content from each other. I've taken to bringing my book with me everywhere and using that instead of reaching for my phone.

Take it one step at a time and try to limit the amount of apps you use as well as how much time you spend on it. In tandem you need to limit how much screen time you have, no point ditching the phone if you'll be sat browsing Reddit on your tablet or on a laptop. At the moment the only apps I have on mine are banking, card or e-mail related ones so that I limit it's usefulness for other things.

Good luck!
