Do you have any stories from family or friends about the various resistance movements during World War 2?

I know this is a post about resistance movements, but since we’re talking about the world wars I’d like to share something myself. My great grandfathers served in both world wars.

We have my great great grandfathers medals. He served in the Royal Navy in WW1, from what I’ve been told he was to take part in the Battle of Jutland but for reasons unknown to me, he never did.

My great grandfather (who I got to meet, he was a lovely man but he died when I was young) served in the British army. He was captured by the Germans at some point and imprisoned in a POW camp in Germany. He apparently had a friend there who was Russian, and who was eventually killed. My great granddad never spoke much of the war, but from what my grandmother and mother have told me, he used to have terrible nightmares as a result of what he seen. Apparently there were women and children in France who were starving and begged the British soldiers for food. This deeply affected my great granddad. According to my mum, after the war he used to see a figure of a woman at the end of his bed at night and it absolutely terrified him.
