Has anyone here not really experienced much racism in the US, even now?

Most of the racism I experienced growing up in the South was very subtle. "Jokes" about being Indian, Muslim, Middle Eastern, etc., often lumped into one (e.g., "hey, tell Uncle Saddam to stop bombing us, also cows taste great! haha jokes bro!"). Sometimes, they'd make jokes about others who are Desi or Muslim and think its okay since they're not talking about me, and other times, some white guys would turn to me to make racist Mexican or Black jokes thinking I'd be cool with it since I'm neither.

Recently though, the racism turned from subtle jokes to outright nastiness, but this has largely been targeted against my parents rather than myself, and I don't know why that hurts more than actually being the target yourself. Also glares....lots of nasty glares too.

That all being said, I think its fair to say that for most of my life, I didn't experience racism, but the times that I have really stand out to me. I also regret not standing my ground when I was younger and just taking that shit. Luckily, I never felt shame or blamed myself or my own background, which unfortunately, I've seen lots of my fellow Desis do when growing up.
