Are we drilling for oil on 14th and Colorado?

I work for NJH and they own the land. We had an employee-wide email go out a few weeks ago:

Dear Colleagues: Beginning toward the end of this month, you will see some activity on the vacant NJH property at the N.W corner of 14th and Colorado. NJH has agreed to let Denver Water drill an exploratory well to assess the aquifer under Denver for possible water Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR). This is a description of the ASR Study as described by Denver Water:

“Aquifer Storage and Recovery, or ASR, is the injection of treated, potable water into an aquifer for later recovery and use. The concept is similar to a savings account at a bank – water is injected (deposits) during wet years and stored indefinitely. During droughts, water is extracted (withdrawals) to supplement supplies. Denver Water is exploring how ASR may contribute to delivering high quality drinking water for our customers far into the future. To help with this study, we have secured access to a parcel of National Jewish Health property located at 14th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard to drill an exploratory borehole and collect data on the underlying aquifers. Drilling work will begin soon and we expect the operation to take approximately two weeks. Work will take place in two phases – first with a smaller rig and later with a larger one. During the later phase, the rig will need to work around the clock for several days. Out of respect for our neighbors and to comply with Denver’s Noise Ordinance, we will use equipment and mitigation techniques to keep noise to a minimum. Our crews will work to minimize inconvenience to neighbors, area businesses and the public. Once we have collected the necessary data the borehole will be abandoned according to state standards and the site returned to its existing condition.”
