Why are sex toys, and even throwing parties about them, so common and normal for women to have, but the male equivalent toys are seen as awkward to discuss and own?

Those were popular at least 10+ years ago when I graduated college. I went to one or two, I hosted one and a couple of friends hosted one and I had one co worker who was a consultant. Plenty of mutual friends were consultants. It was just sort of a fun thing to do with 6-10 closeish friends, then usually one person who was at one party would host another because you get a big percentage discount if everyone else buys something. It's not that weird around a mix of single and attached women. I haven't actually heard of them in the years since mostly because I see it as a young/mid-twenty somethings activity. Not that I personally don't think it's strange for women in their 30s or older to do it, but younger women tend to like the group mentality of it, and if you're older you probably just go and buy it yourself. Also, I've been to plenty in the past and don't need to go again. But I am also someone who has been to a sex shop a handful of times with a boyfriend so maybe I and my friends are more sex positive. (That is a relatively new term).

Now I have to admit, I couldn't imagine guys having a sex toy party. I would imagine most men like to keep those topics to themselves or between them and their significant other.

I personally don't think it's that weird for a guy to have a sex toy, but there is that sort of connotation that a man having a pocket pussy is seen as a desperate loner yet a woman with a vibrator is seen as sexually liberated. That is probably stemming from women traditionally seen as only having sex with their man and are sluts if they sleep around, yet men traditionally were seen as strong/virile by having a lot of sex, and holding the sexual power in a relationship. Men who sleep around can brag about their sexual conquests but women did not always get that privilege.
