I agree, singing a song by a black person in general is not remotely a statement or something worth commenting on.

I’m referring specifically to this particular song, which has a history of being claimed for black singers and of white women being criticised for singing it. I’m not even stating that this is right or wrong, or that Ariana is right or wrong to sing it, just pointing out that there has been past controversy over white women singing this song, and that therefore, given the recent accusations levelled at Ariana, she’s either making a statement or oblivious to the past controversy. Judging by the downvotes here, I guess the controversy is less well known than I thought, so maybe she’s just oblivious.
