CMV: Being right wing means you’re either nasty or stupid.

Could you define what you mean by 'right wing?'

I would consider myself quite economically 'right,' and I don't think most of what the UK's Conservative government does aligns with any 'right wing' philosophy - it is just 'more right' than Labour. When you compare some politicians to murderers, I agree with you - I just don't think this is a 'right versus left' issue, just that lots of politicians are incompetent.

In another answer, you use care home deaths as an example - the same thing has happened in California and New York states, both which have fairly extremely left wing governance. This also implies that Labour or similar would have done differently, but both Labour in Wales and the SNP have had similar issues, and both are significantly farther 'left' than the Conservatives.

What you seem to mean is 'the right is against wide-scale wealth redistribution and welfare' which is, I think, broadly correct. Your characterisation of it as 'uncaring' is, in fact, a point of view thing.

To me, people should actually take responsibility for themselves - I should make enough money to feed myself, clothe, whatever. Whatever I create is both my responsibility, and my right - nobody else should have a claim on my efforts, as that is literally slavery.

This doesn't mean nobody should help others - charities have existed since long before the welfare state, and should continue to exist. It just means that nobody should have the right to tell me or anyone else that someone else is more deserving of the product of my efforts than I am. This is, again, a justification for theft, slavery, and a lack of individual responsibility.

Some degree of welfare as a 'safety net' can reasonably be seen as a good. However, if someone cannot or will not provide for themselves, why should anyone else be forced to? You will, I assume, characterise this as selfishness. I would, however, characterise the opposite as selfishness - the idea that you are, by virtue of existing, entitled to the efforts of others is FAR MORE selfish than believing that you are entitled to the fruits of your own efforts. Besides, why bother producing something for yourself, or taking care of yourself, when you can force others to keep you in the manner you are accustomed?
