Ehh, like you already pointed out, part of the reason why I don't rate him highly is down to his performance vs his teammates.

He was undoubtedly very good in the mid- 2000s and the combination between Michelin-tyres and Newey-cars suited him very well. But I don't think his performances after his McLaren--stint were worth of a top- driver. He was matched by Massa, who is a good driver but nowhere near as good as the elite, plus comfortably beaten by Alonso and Vettel. And his Lotus - stint was good but I have feeling that a top- driver could have challenged for the title in 2012, at least that's what even their own engineers believed.

His records vs his teammates is mixed plus he has awful adaptability which is why his performances weren't really consistent like someone as Alonso (who had a similar long career). I don't even think it's unquestionable that he is the best one- time champion of the 21 century.
