Beautiful shutdown on Quora.

I am a bit iffy. I think people should be allowed to have an AR-15. It's really not much different from any other rifle. Hell, I think people should be able to own new automatics. They were able to before and they were almost never used in crimes. (I think 1 legal automatic was used in a crime?)

Do you know what the difference between automatics and semi automatics was? Automatics required a lot more paperwork. They required you to have the chief of police sign off on it. Then the paperwork went to the ATF, and 6 months to a year later (actually, that's just how it is now, Idk what the wait was before 1986) you'd be approved and could go pick the gun up.

The paperwork included your name, address, finger prints, the make of the gun, and the serial number. If you went shooting, you had to take the paperwork with you.

What is the problem with doing that for all guns? I am all for stricter requirements for owning guns, and registering them. I hate the argument that it'll allow the government to know if you have a gun. Do people really think the government won't know? I don't believe for a second the NSA isn't keeping records of who has a background check done for a gun.
