I have a big ego. Should I get rid of it??

Ego is an English transliteration of the Greek word for "I".

It has been shat upon for so long that nobody knows what it means anymore. I'm tired of it. It has become a means for people to bash each other in the vein of some sort of moralistic snobbery. It is a self-refuting process ending in sound and fury signifying nothing but a clash of ego.

There is a truth that this nonsense is obscuring. You aren't going to see the point if you are playing the weird language games that make for such a question. When you say " huge ego" you probably mean you want to be important and are selfish. That has nothing to do with perceiving your self and understanding how your perceptions work. That has nothing to do with understanding how you interrelate with elements of your environment. What your asking is actually several questions and these will be conflated by others to your detriment for various reasons.

Don't be a victim of this useless dick-measuring contest. It's like deliberately being a victim of a casino. You best not even cross the threshold of an obvious swindle.

The ego of Freud is not what new agers or even some educated occultists mean. The use of the word in varying contexts is deliberate obscurantism intended to befuddle and manipulate.

The repeated blastings against ego are often so misunderstood that they do more harm than good. So don't ask what you should do until you get people to clarify exactly what they mean by ego in their context. If they blubber incoherently when asked or inject a lot of vitriol into their answer, just ignore them. They're looking for someone to denigrate and shame to inflate their own egos.

Here is what I am trying to do. I am paying attention to how I feel and react to things. Rather than get stuck in my own reactions and feelings, I try to pay attention to my feelings and thoughts. I try to understand them without freaking out or making moral judgements. I try to be honest and accepting. I try to identify any sources from whence bullshit comes and put it in context. Then eject what you don't need or want. Repeat the process as needed

No, don't throw yourself away. Just cut off the stuff you're tangled into that does not really belong to you and isn't your fault. Like what you like, hate what you hate. If it doesn't really matter, then cut it off from you.

Yeah, it takes effort. The lack of encumbrance after should make it worth it.

My progress on this front is partial. The early results are encouraging.
