Boss keeps sending me to large scale events that are non-essential but she doesn’t feel like going to. I keep getting sick. Now I’ve been sick for over a week and it’s turned into a chest cold

Her boss is a sexiest boomer who is already upset that I need maternity leave at all and was full throttle on writing me up for not being able to flex the appointment I scheduled. I think she lied to him about something.

Where I’m at it looks worse to go above your boss than to try and handle it below. I did try and talk to HR.

They confirmed that my supervisor is allowed to deny my sick leave if they want to. I was shocked. It wasn’t written in their employee manual and they said that the rule can flex so much it isn’t written down…I feel like that’s shady but other than getting an employment lawyer (which I can’t afford) there’s not much I can do. I’m also really trying not to kick up dust because my husband does work here as well. I know it shouldn’t have to be that way but with the baby coming we need to sure his job is stable.

I don’t qualify for FMLA (maternity leave) until after a year of employment. HR is willing to give me 6 weeks for vaginal birth or 8 for C-Section. But I need to exasperate all of my sick and annual leave in that time and would eventually go on unpaid leave at this point because I keep needing to take sick time due to my boss sending me to shit that makes me sick.

Unpaid leave means you can be fired at a moments notice for not appearing for work. However they won’t do that during my granted 6 or 8 weeks. Just after I come back. If I come back and take another day for let’s say babies doctor appointment and it was unpaid, I could theoretically be fired. They did say if a serious medical situation happened like post birth complications and I had a doctors note they would honor that additional time off

It’s a whole mess!
